This call will contribute to increased knowledge about the life situation and health of LGBT+ people. The initiative includes research concerning people of different age groups, in relation to health, working life and welfare. In total, SEK 40 million has been allocated for the years 2021–2023.
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer persons (LGBTQ+) are a social group who often face significant challenges and whose life situation appears to entail an increased risk of impaired mental health and risk behaviors compared to many other groups. However, knowledge about how these conditions have developed, the underlying drivers and the potential available measures need to be developed. Such knowledge also contributes to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, and in particular the principle of leaving no one behind.
Focus area
In collaboration with researchers, Forte has produced the report “Health and living conditions among young LGBT people” (in Swedish), which identifies a large number of research needs, including:
- Knowledge of risk and protection factors through longitudinal studies
- Knowledge of specific subgroups, especially queer and transgender people
- Knowledge of exposure for violence and its causes
- Knowledge of interventions aimed at preventing and effectively treating mental ill-health
- Knowledge of the effects of preventive measures and how they can be put into practice
The initiative includes research concerning people of different age groups, and preferably linking health to working life and welfare.
